How to choose vinyl transfer tape
Tack. Tack is how hard the tape grips the vinyl. High tack lifts glossy calendered films that stay tight to their liner after weeding: EnduraMASK High Tack was engineered for ORACAL 651 and similar vinyls, and EnduraMASK Perfect Tear, Perfect Tear LayFlat, RTape ApliTape 4075, Conform 4075RLA, Clear Choice AT65 and AT75.1, ORATAPE HT55 and TransferRite 592U are the other high tack options. Medium tack is the all-purpose choice for medium and large graphics, wall vinyl and wet application: PerfecTear Plus, TransferRite 582U and 782U, RTape Conform 4078RLA, EnduraMASK MHT 130, ORATAPE MT95 and MT80P, and Texas Tack. Low tack, RTape Clear Choice AT60n, is for large format and printed graphics where the tape has to release cleanly.
Paper or clear. Paper tape is the everyday sign-shop tape and tears by hand. Clear film tape lets you see the graphic and the substrate at once, for registering multi-color layers and positioning on a wall or window: RTape Clear Choice AT65, AT60n and AT75.1, EnduraMASK MHC 160, Nekoosa PreView Plus, TransferRite 1310, ORATAPE MT80P and MT95. Grid tapes print a one inch grid for lining up small decals: 2670 Series clear, 2668 Series paper, EnduraMASK MHC 160G and MHC 165.
Widths and lengths. Rolls run 2 to 48 inches wide. Shop rolls are 100 yards; 5, 10, 25 and 50 yard rolls (Texas Tack, 2670 and 2668 Series, MHC 165) suit craft and small-shop work. Buy tape at least as wide as the graphic.
Applying it. Roll tape onto weeded graphics with a squeegee, or use an applicator for long runs: the Image One Impact PRO-Roll holds 3 to 12 inch or 12 to 24 inch rolls, and the EnduraMASK MHT 130 roller tray bundle pairs a 24 inch by 100 yard roll with the Endura Roller Tray.

Transfer tape questions, answered
Is transfer tape the same as application tape or premask?
Yes. Vinyl transfer tape, application tape and premask are three names for the same product: a paper or clear film with a light adhesive that lifts weeded cut vinyl off its liner and carries it to the substrate in one piece.
Which transfer tape should I use with ORACAL 651?
A high tack tape. EnduraMASK High Tack was engineered specifically for ORACAL 651 and similar glossy plotter films that stay tight to the liner after weeding. EnduraMASK Perfect Tear, RTape ApliTape 4075, Conform 4075RLA and Clear Choice AT65 are the other high tack choices.

What tack do I need for wall graphics and removable vinyl?
Medium or medium-high tack. RTape Conform 4078RLA is made for wall and general purpose work, PerfecTear Plus medium tack is recommended for wall vinyl and wet application, and ORATAPE HT55 was engineered for vinyl wall graphics and works with low-tack removable vinyls.
What width transfer tape should I buy?
At least as wide as the graphic you are masking. Rolls are stocked from 2 to 48 inches wide: 2.25, 3.25, 4.25, 5.25, 6.5, 8.5, 10.5, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 24, 30, 40 and 48 inch depending on the tape. Shop rolls are 100 yards; 5, 10, 25 and 50 yard rolls are available for craft and small runs.
