How to choose printable heat transfer vinyl
Match the film to your printer. Most printable HTV is made for solvent, eco-solvent and latex inkjet printers: Siser ColorPrint PU, ColorPrint Extra, Hi-5 Print Matte and SparklePrint, Chemica BestPRINT, BestPRINT SIR and HotMark Print, and Logical Color Universal PRINT all take eco-solvent, solvent and latex ink. Siser ColorPrint Easy, S-Print and Chemica HotMark Print Revolution are solvent and eco-solvent only, and Siser DigiBrick adds UV. None of these run through a desktop inkjet or toner printer. For a home inkjet use Siser EasyColor DTV sheets or Logical Color DarkJET and RGP heat transfer papers; for a desktop sublimation printer use Logical Color SubliDARK Print sheets.
Thickness and hand. Chemica HotMark Print is the thinnest at 2 mil; ColorPrint PU, HotMark Print Revolution, ColorPrint Easy, Universal PRINT, S-Print and Hi-5 Print run 2.8 to 3.3 mil. ColorPrint Extra is a 5.3 mil gloss film for canvas, nylon and leather, BestPRINT is 6 mil and thick enough to place by hand, BestPRINT SIR adds a dye-blocking layer for sublimated garments, SparklePrint embeds glitter flakes and DigiBrick is a 29.5 mil film with a raised 3D look.
Temperature and peel. Low-temperature films suit heat-sensitive and stretchy fabrics: S-Print applies at 248°F for 15 seconds, Hi-5 Print at 250°F for 5 seconds with a hot peel, and HotMark Print Revolution bonds to cotton in five seconds. ColorPrint Easy presses at 300°F for 15 seconds and peels warm; ColorPrint PU (295°F, 15 to 20 seconds) and ColorPrint Extra (320°F, 10 to 15 seconds) peel hot; EasyColor DTV and SparklePrint press at 311°F for 15 seconds.
Masking. Printed films move to the garment on a heat transfer mask. Siser TTD High Tack Mask is made for printed media; ColorPrint Easy and PU take a medium or high tack mask, ColorPrint Extra takes TTD Easy Mask or high tack, and HotMark Print takes medium tack. BestPRINT, BestPRINT SIR and RGP paper need no mask. The ColorPrint Easy Bundle pairs a 20 in x 30 ft roll with TTD Easy Mask, a Teflon sheet and a weeding tool.
Sizes. Rolls are 15 to 59 in wide and 11 to 150 ft long; desktop sheets are 8.5 x 11 in and 11 x 17 in.

What kind of printer do I need for printable heat transfer vinyl?
A solvent, eco-solvent or latex inkjet printer for roll films such as Siser ColorPrint, Chemica BestPRINT and HotMark Print and Logical Color Universal PRINT; Siser DigiBrick also accepts UV ink. These films are not compatible with desktop inkjet or toner printers. For a desktop inkjet printer use Siser EasyColor DTV sheets or Logical Color DarkJET and RGP transfer paper, and for a desktop sublimation printer use Logical Color SubliDARK Print sheets.
Can I print heat transfer vinyl on a home inkjet printer?
Yes, with the right media. Siser EasyColor DTV feeds through a desktop inkjet printer like copy paper, in 8.4 x 11 in packs of 50 and 11 x 16.5 in packs of 25, then cuts and masks with TTD Easy Mask. Logical Color DarkJET (dark and colored garments) and RGP (white and light garments) are inkjet heat transfer papers in letter and tabloid sheets, and RGP needs no transfer tape.
Do I need transfer tape or a mask for printable HTV?
Usually. Printed films are lifted with a heat transfer mask: Siser TTD High Tack Mask is designed for printed media, ColorPrint Easy and PU use medium or high tack, ColorPrint Extra uses TTD Easy Mask or high tack, HotMark Print uses medium tack and SubliDARK Print uses low tack. Chemica BestPRINT and BestPRINT SIR are thick enough to place by hand, and RGP paper transfers directly.
Which printable HTV works on nylon, leather and canvas?
Siser ColorPrint Extra is the 5.3 mil film made for canvas, nylon and leather. Logical Color Universal PRINT lists nylon, leather, rayon and Lycra spandex, Chemica HotMark Print Revolution lists nylon, and ColorPrint Easy and ColorPrint PU list leather.
Which printable HTV is best for heat-sensitive or stretchy fabrics?
Siser Hi-5 Print Matte applies at 250°F in 5 seconds for polyester, rayon and polypropylene, Siser S-Print at 248°F for 15 seconds, and Chemica HotMark Print Revolution at a low temperature in five seconds on cotton. For stretch, ColorPrint PU, HotMark Print and Universal PRINT are the thin, stretchable films.
Is there printable HTV for sublimation printers?
Yes. Logical Color SubliDARK Print is a matte white polyester fabric sheet that prints on desktop sublimation printers such as the Sawgrass SG400 and SG500 and Ricoh SG3110, then contour cuts and presses onto light or dark fabric. Chemica BestPRINT SIR is the film to print over sublimated polyester: its dye-blocking layer stops dye migration. Siser SparklePrint is not compatible with sublimation printers.
Are printable heat transfer vinyls safe for children's clothing?
Siser ColorPrint Easy, ColorPrint PU, S-Print, Hi-5 Print, SparklePrint, DigiBrick and EasyColor DTV and Logical Color DarkJET are CPSIA certified. Chemica HotMark Print is CPSIA compliant and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I certified, and DigiBrick is also OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class II certified.
Printable heat transfer vinyl, also called printable HTV or printable iron-on vinyl, is a white polyurethane film that you print in full color, contour cut on a vinyl cutter, weed and heat press onto light or dark garments.
