How to choose a vinyl squeegee
Poly blend, the everyday squeegee. The 4 in poly blend squeegee has a ribbed profile with radial corners, medium flex and a high-glide injection-moulded edge, and is the standard for adhesive vinyl, application tape and digital film. It comes in blue, white and yellow, in 6 in and 12 in lengths for large format graphics, and in 50 and 100 packs for the shop. Felt-edge wrapped versions come ready for wraps.
Firmer and softer edges. Nylon-Plus squeegees have twin ribs, low flex and maximum memory for medium and heavy films, and the 3M Gold is nylon reinforced so the edge lasts and leaves no trails. The Teflon squeegee is rigid with hard smooth edges for grooves and rivets and will not take superglue or industrial adhesives. The WetEdge bonds a microfibre low-friction edge for wet or dry vehicle work, and the Flexi-Edge combo pairs a rigid plastic edge with a soft rubber one.
Buffers and sleeves. Pre-cut felt buffers stick to a standard 4 in squeegee so it glides over film without scratching, in 5 and 20 packs; low-friction felt sleeves slip over 4, 6 and 12 in squeegees. The felt half moon is for curves.
Handles, rollers and grippers. E-Z Grip handles hold a 4, 6 or 12 in squeegee so more pressure goes through the edge with less wrist strain. The Speedball roller applies firm 90-degree pressure on smooth walls, the Master Magic combines a wedge for wet transfer with a neoprene roller, and the E.Z. Gripper in 30 or 54 in lets one installer hold and tension a wide sheet.
Squeegee questions
Which squeegee is best for adhesive vinyl?
The 4 in poly blend squeegee. Its medium flex and high-glide moulded edge suit pressure-sensitive vinyl, application tape and printed film, and the 4 in length is easy to control. Use the 6 or 12 in lengths for large format panels, and a Nylon-Plus or 3M Gold when you want a firmer, longer-lasting edge on medium and heavy films.
Do I need a felt edge?
For laminated prints and vehicle wraps, yes. A bare plastic edge can scratch a laminate or a painted surface; a pre-cut felt buffer or a low-friction felt sleeve lets the squeegee glide. The felt-edge wrapped poly blend squeegees come ready made, and the WetEdge microfibre squeegee is used wet or dry on wraps.
What is the Teflon squeegee for?
Grooves, edges and rivets. It is rigid with hard smooth edges, helps eliminate cupping, and superglue and other industrial adhesives will not stick to it, so it stays clean on installation work.
Why use a squeegee handle?
An E-Z Grip handle lets you push more pressure through the edge while reducing wrist strain on all-day work, keeps the other edge of the squeegee clean and straight, and swaps squeegees through removable end caps. Handles fit industry standard 4, 6 and 12 in squeegees.
What is the difference between a roller applicator and a squeegee?
A roller applies even downward pressure regardless of the angle you hold it and will not scratch, which suits smooth walls and general sign work; the Speedball roller is 4 in wide. A squeegee pushes fluid and air out ahead of its edge, so it is the tool for wet application and for working film into contours.
How do I handle a wide sheet of vinyl on my own?
With an E.Z. Gripper. The 30 and 54 in bars clamp the sheet so one person can hold it, keep it tensioned, stop it flopping or folding, and position vertical or horizontal media over the substrate without pre-masking.
A vinyl squeegee pushes air and application fluid out from under adhesive vinyl, application tape and printed film. The 4 in poly blend squeegee, with its ribbed profile, radial corners, medium flex and high-glide injection-moulded edge, is the sign shop standard in blue, white and yellow; 6 and 12 in lengths cover large format panels, and 50 and 100 packs keep the bench stocked.

For laminated prints and vehicle wraps, pre-cut felt buffers, low-friction felt sleeves and felt-edge wrapped squeegees stop scratching, and the WetEdge microfibre squeegee and Flexi-Edge combo work wet or dry.
