How to choose 3M vinyl wrap
3M 2080 for color change. The 2080 Series is 3M's solid-color wrap film: 3.5 mil, a pressure-activated slideable and repositionable adhesive with Comply air-release channels, a gray adhesive that blocks the color underneath, 60 in rolls in 25 and 50 yards and up to 8 years outdoor durability. Finishes stocked: gloss (34 colors), high gloss (15), satin (22), matte (18), brushed metallic, carbon fiber, matrix and shadow.
IJ180 for printed wraps. The IJ180 family is the 2 mil cast printable wrap film with a white luster finish, 130 percent stretch and solvent, eco-solvent, UV and latex ink compatibility. IJ180-10 has the pressure-activated ControlTac adhesive; IJ180C adds Comply air-release channels; IJ180CV3 uses the medium-to-higher tack Comply V3 adhesive; IJ180mC is the easy-removal version. ControlTac with Comply is the original air-egress wrap vinyl and ControlTac V3 the current one; Print Film 40C is removable, IJ3552C is for short-term changeable graphics and IJ46 is the one-year bus wrap film.
Scotchcal and specialty films. IJ3650 (2 mil cast, 8 to 10 years, white or clear gloss) and IJ3690LF (rough and low-energy surfaces) are the long-term Scotchcal films; IJ35, IJ35C, IJ160 and IJ160C are the 3.2 and 4 mil calendered films. IJ67 is 60/40 perforated window film, IJ680 and IJ680CR are 7 mil Scotchlite reflective, and 3662 is sidewalk film.
Overlaminates. 8518 gloss, 8519 luster, 8520 matte and 8528 gloss are 2 mil cast laminates that resist fuel vapors and add UV protection for up to 8 years over printed IJ180 wraps.
Knifeless tape and squeegees. Design Line (3.5 mm x 50 m, single roll or case of 20), Finish Line (3.5 mm), Precision Line (4 mm), Tri Line (6 and 9 mm), Perf Line for perforated film and Bridge Line cut wrap film without a blade touching the paint. The 3M Gold squeegee is nylon reinforced and does not leave trails.

What finishes and colors does 3M 2080 come in?
Eight finishes are stocked: gloss (34 colors), satin (22), matte (18), high gloss (15), brushed metallic (aluminum, black, steel, titanium), carbon fiber (black, anthracite), matrix (matte black) and shadow (black). All are 3.5 mil films on 60 in rolls in 25 yards, with several colors also in 50 yards.
What is the difference between 3M IJ180-10, IJ180C, IJ180CV3 and IJ180mC?
All four are the same 2 mil cast printable wrap film with a white luster finish and up to 130 percent stretch. IJ180-10 has the pressure-activated ControlTac adhesive only. IJ180C adds Comply air-release channels. IJ180CV3 uses the Comply V3 adhesive with medium to higher tack for sliding, tacking and repositioning. IJ180mC uses the micro Comply adhesive for easy removability.
What is 3M Comply and ControlTac?
ControlTac is the pressure-activated adhesive: the film slides and repositions on the surface until firm squeegee pressure sets it. Comply is the air-release system, micro channels in the adhesive that let trapped air escape for a bubble-free installation. Comply V3 is the current version with non-visible channels, used on 3M 2080 and IJ180CV3.
Which 3M overlaminate should I use over IJ180?
3M 8518 gloss, 8519 luster and 8520 matte are the 2 mil cast Scotchcal laminates made for printed wraps; 8528 is the second gloss option. They resist fuel vapors, are highly conformable and carry up to 8 years outdoor durability.
What is knifeless tape and which 3M tape should I use?
Knifeless tape is a filament tape laid under the wrap film; pulling the filament cuts the film cleanly so no blade touches the paint. 3M Design Line (3.5 mm x 50 m) is the general-purpose tape, Finish Line (3.5 mm) trims edges, Precision Line (4 mm) cuts tighter lines, Tri Line (6 and 9 mm) leaves a gap for inlays, Perf Line cuts perforated window film and Bridge Line spans gaps. Design Line and Finish Line are sold by the roll; Precision, Tri and Perf Line by the case.
How long does 3M vinyl wrap last?
3M rates the 2080 Series at up to 8 years outdoors, IJ3650 Scotchcal at 8 to 10 years and the 8518, 8519 and 8520 overlaminates at up to 8 years. Short-term films are rated shorter by design: IJ46 transit wrap at up to one year, and IJ3552C and Print Film 40C are the removable and changeable films.
What roll sizes does 3M wrap film come in?
2080 color-change film is 60 in wide in 25 yard rolls, with 50 yard rolls in some colors. IJ180 printable film comes 54 and 60 in wide in 25, 50, 100, 150 and 200 yard rolls; IJ160, IJ35 and ControlTac with Comply add 30, 36 and 48 in widths. Overlaminates come 30 to 60 in wide in 50 yard rolls.
