How to choose printable car wrap vinyl
Premium cast for full wraps. ORAJET 3951 is the 2 mil cast fleet and vehicle film with a repositionable, removable solvent adhesive; 3951RA adds the RapidAir egress liner and 3951RA+ ProSlide adds ProSlide repositioning on top. From 3M, IJ180CV3, IJ180C and IJ180mC are 2 mil cast films that stretch 130 percent, and ControlTac V3 conforms to compound curves, corrugations and rivets. Arlon's cast line runs from SLX Cast Wrap and SLX+ (FLITE Technology, single-installer repositioning) to DPF 6000XRP, DPF 6100XLP and DPF 6000RP White (up to 10 years unprinted) and Omni Cast Wrap for rivets and corrugations.
Calendered for panels and budgets. PrismJET 230 Ultra (2.4 mil ultra-calendered, air egress liner, flat and moderately curved surfaces), ORAJET 3551RA (2.75 mil) and 3551RA+ ProSlide, Arlon DPF 4600GLX/MLX, Fusion Wrap and DPF 4000, and 3M IJ160C and IJ35C cover partial wraps, flat panels and shorter terms.
PVC-free. ORAJET 3971RA+ ProSlide is a cast polyurethane PVC-free wrap film, 3981RA and 3981RA+ ProSlide are 2 mil films that are 100 percent PVC and plasticizer free, and Arlon DPF V9700 is a non-PVC cast PU film.

Which printable vinyl is best for a full vehicle wrap?
A 2 mil premium cast film with an air-release liner: ORAJET 3951RA or 3951RA+ ProSlide, 3M IJ180CV3 or IJ180mC, or Arlon SLX+ or DPF 6000XRP. Cast films conform to compound curves, rivets and corrugations and carry the longest ratings; Arlon DPF 6000RP White is rated up to 10 years unprinted and 3M IJ3650 8 to 10 years.
Cast or calendered printable wrap vinyl?
Cast for full wraps and anything with curves, rivets or corrugations. Calendered films such as PrismJET 230 Ultra (2.4 mil), ORAJET 3551RA (2.75 mil), Arlon Fusion Wrap and DPF 4600GLX/MLX, and 3M IJ160C are for flat and moderately curved panels, partial wraps and shorter-term graphics at a lower cost.
Do printed wraps need an overlaminate?
Yes. A printed wrap is laminated with a cast overlaminate such as 3M 8518 gloss, 8519 luster or 8520 matte, which add UV and physical protection, resist fuel vapors and are rated up to 8 years. Arlon pairs its DPF 2400 reflective film with its Series 3200 optically clear laminate. Only solid color-change films such as ORACAL 970RA go on without a laminate.
What do RapidAir, ProSlide, Comply and X-Scape mean?
They are each brand's air-egress and repositioning systems. ORACAL RapidAir is an air-egress liner and ProSlide adds repositionability; 3M ControlTac is the pressure-activated slideable adhesive and Comply its air-release channels; Arlon X-Scape is the air-egress system and FLITE Technology lets the film float over the surface until firm pressure is applied; PrismJET and KPMF use air-egress liners. All are meant for bubble-free installation.
What printers and inks work with printable wrap vinyl?
The listings name the inks: ORAJET 3951, 3M IJ180 and Arlon DPF films print with solvent, eco-solvent, UV and latex inkjet ink; ORAJET 3551RA and PrismJET 230 Ultra with solvent, eco-solvent and latex. Check the product page for the exact list, then print, laminate and contour cut as usual.
Is there a PVC-free printable wrap vinyl?
Yes. ORAJET 3971RA+ ProSlide is a cast polyurethane PVC-free wrapping film with RapidAir and ProSlide, ORAJET 3981RA and 3981RA+ ProSlide are 100 percent PVC and plasticizer free, and Arlon DPF V9700 is a non-PVC cast polyurethane film with FLITE Technology.
Can I print a reflective vehicle wrap?
Yes. Arlon DPF 2400 and DPF 2400XLP are fleet-grade printable reflective films, IllumiNITE Wrap is a conformable printable reflective wrap film with FLITE Technology, DPF 4400 is a 3.5 mil calendered reflective film for short-term graphics, and 3M IJ680 and IJ680CR are 7 mil Scotchlite reflective films for solvent, eco-solvent, UV and latex printers.
