Ink is designed to dry when it hits the air. What happens when your printer is not printing? The maintenance assembly has a rubber capping system that caps the ink head, and applies a vacuum to the head to let a small amount of ink to be spit and emptied into the waste tray or bottle. This prevents the head from clogging. You should replace your maintenance assembly yearly, or when the rubber dries out. Replacing the maintenance assembly yearly will prevent costly head replacement repairs.
