A DTF printer prints full-color artwork plus a white underbase onto PET film; the film is then coated with adhesive powder, cured, and pressed onto almost any fabric — cotton, polyester, blends, light or dark, with no pretreatment. How to Choose a DTF Printer

• Width and throughput. A 13-inch class machine suits a shop printing transfers between other jobs. Dual- and quad-head 24-inch systems are built for continuous runs, and head count is what sets hourly output.
• All-in-one or separate shaker. Integrated units print, powder and cure in one pass and save floor space. Separate shakers keep you running when one component is down.
• Textile DTF or UV DTF. A standard direct to film printer is for fabric. A UV DTF printer makes stickers that transfer onto hard goods — bottles, tumblers, cases — without heat.
• Ventilation and space. Powder and curing generate airborne dust and fumes, so extraction is a requirement, not an accessory.
• Consumables. DTF is an ongoing ink, film and powder business. Work out your per-transfer cost before comparing machines on sticker price.

What Is DTF Printing?

DTF stands for direct to film. A printer lays CMYK ink and a white underbase onto PET film, adhesive powder is applied to the wet ink, and the film is cured so the powder melts into the print. The finished transfer stores flat and presses onto a garment later with a heat press.

How Much Does a DTF Printer Cost?

Do I Need a Powder Shaker?

Only if volume justifies it. Powder can be applied by hand and cured on a heat station, which is how most shops start and why entry systems stay affordable. An automatic shaker applies powder evenly, removes the excess and cures in one pass, and it earns its price once hand-powdering is the slowest step in your day.

What About Curing and Air Filtration?

These are the two stages shops budget last and regret first. Curing has to drive heat through the powder without scorching the film, and doing it on your heat press ties up the press you need for applying transfers; the DTF Station Phoenix Air 16x20 Curing Oven at $1,099 takes that job off the press and keeps the cure consistent across a batch. Air filtration matters because powdering and curing put fine adhesive dust and fumes into the room you are standing in. Is DTF Better Than Screen Printing or HTV?
