Mimaki Printer Setup - Know Before You Purchase
Mimaki’s are high-performance machines, and require a clean, stable, and climate-controlled workspace to ensure consistent print quality and equipment longevity. Factors like dust, fluctuating temperatures, and humidity will affect the mechanical components and the behavior of inks and substrates. For example, excess humidity can lead to ink bleeding or media deformation, while overly dry environments might cause static issues or drying inconsistencies.
Creating the right setup environment contributes to smoother workflow and reduced downtime. Proper ventilation, adequate lighting, and organized material storage will support your efficiency and equipment maintenance. Ensuring that the power supply is stable and that the floor is level and supportive of the printer’s weight are crucial for safe and reliable operation.Â
Mimaki Printer Setup - Environmental Requirements
What has to happen to set up and maintain the proper environment for a Mimaki printer:
Level surface
The floor stands are set up with a precision level and that level must be maintained.
Humidity and Temperature
Relative humidity and temperature impact print quality and performance.
- Relative Humidity spec: 35 – 65 %Rh
- Temperature: 15 – 30 °C (59 – 86 °F)
- Maintained temperature: 20 – 25 °C (68 – 77 °F)
DTF Ink & Humidity
DTF ink requires more specific relative humidity. Relative humidity of at least 50% is required for proper performance of ink on DTF film and to prevent clogging.
Space
You must have adequate room for the printer setup and installation as well as room behind the printer to change media
- 64-inch printers take up about 12 feet of floor space and should be positioned with at least two feet behind the print to maneuver behind it
- MIMAKI suggests leaving at least 4 feet in front of the printer when using the XY slitter accessory
Power
- 64-inch printers use a lot of power to run the heaters and the media take-up system and accessories
- MIMAKI recommends running them on a dedicated 20-amp electrical circuit with an uninterrupted power supply to guard against power surges.
