Don't over think every move. Being prepared is more than important, it is vital. But, don't let preparation distract you from doing the actual work it takes to make money. You don't need to have every last detail planned out, or everything perfectly placed before you dive into the nitty-gritty daily work.
Watch your expenses. While you might be tempted to go out and buy that new computer/phone/iPad, keep in mind that every expense that is not essential will likely harm your bottom line. Really think purchases through before making them and determine whether your business actually needs them.
Spend when necessary. Problems can also arise when you don't spend money on your business. Make sure you don't cut so many corners that it becomes difficult to do your job. Having products and machines that don't work properly don't do your business any good, and are likely to just cause you more of a headache.
Keep your business life and personal life separated. Keeping work matters at work and family matters at home is always advisable. If you employ family or friends at your sign shop make sure you keep the at-work relationship professional.
Stay on target. Rather than over-promise and under-deliver, keep your clients satisfied by never promising more than you can deliver, and always trying to give a little bit more than you said you could. Your customers will, in turn, always be impressed by what you present, which will keep them coming back for more.
